In interiors, the quintessential French chair is the oval back dining chair. Pictured in drawings, and paintings, described in textbooks and fiction alike, this was the “it” chair of the 1700s. Our version, available without arms, has a tight seat and upholstered back carved in detail from beech. It is not only a dining chair but can be included in living rooms as an occasional chair or as a desk chair when needed. Fluted legs support a carved seat with rain and an oval back.

Simply, our formal dining area looked more complete once the seat was in place. It feels sturdy enough for everyday use, while the overall profile remains easy to live with. The room looks more collected now, but the chair still feels practical for everyday meals.

Maintenance feels practical for a household that uses the table often. Cleaning has been straightforward so far, which matters in a space used every day. It is a little heavier than expected, which also helps it feel secure at the table.
